BASF Tennisclub e.V. - TK GW Mannheim

On Sunday, July 3, we kicked off the Bundesliga season against our neighboring club TK GW Mannheim. The approx. 1,700 spectators saw a thrilling derby, which was unfortunately decided narrowly in favor of the opposing team. The first singles started at 11:00 a.m. sharp. Piros Zsombor (HUN) played against Federico Delbonis (ARG) on center court. Piros was defeated in two sets, 4:6 and 2:6. At the same time, Joao Domonigues (POR) started against Maximilian Marterer (GER) from TK GW Mannheim. Domingues was leading 6:2, 4:2, but Marterer fought his way back into the match and turned the second set around to 4:6. In the match tie-break, Marterer was able to hold on 10:6, meaning the second point went to Mannheim.
Filip Krajinovic (CRO) and Pedro Martinez Portero (ESP) faced each other in the second singles match. Krajinovic won 6:2 and 6:1 to secure the first point for the BASF TC. The final singles match between Duje Ajdukovic (CRO) and Bernabe Zapata Miralles (ESP) went to a thrilling match tie-break after the score was 6:4, 2:6. The spectators were treated to tennis at the highest level and the young Croatian Duje won 11:9 to loud cheers. What an atmosphere: after the singles, the score was tied 2:2. After a 60-minute break, the doubles started simultaneously on Courts 1 and 2. Krajinovic/Ajdukovic against Delbonis/Martinez: The first set went to the players from Mannheim in a tie-break 6:7(5). The second tie-break 6:7(7) was extremely tense and emotional, but in the end the visitors won - by the narrowest of margins. On Court 2, Zsombor / Domingues were beaten by Koepfer / Marterer 1:6 and 6:7(5) in the tie-break, meaning that at the end of an eventful day of tennis, the score was 4:2 for TK GW Mannheim.
The BASF TC would like to thank all members for their great support, together we were able to share this unique experience and the wonderful atmosphere. We are already looking forward to the upcoming home matches! We will continue away at the weekend. The next home match of BASF TC Ludwigshafen will take place on Sunday, 17.07.2022 at 11:00 am in Ludwigshafen against HTC Blau-Weiß Krefeld.
