History

1913

Construction of a tennis facility with two courts in front of the BASF Society House (Wöhlerstraße).

1920

New pitches at the end of Wöhlerstraße and Bremserstraße, which could be used by factory employees for a rental fee. Towards the end of the 1920s, a total of 6 courts were available, which were managed and rented out by the economic department of the Badische Anilin- und Soda-Fabrik. During these years, the players' associations were formed.

1930

1931

In the spring of 1931, the factory management suggested that the players' associations form a club.

1932

At a players' meeting on April 19, 1932, the founding of the I.G. Tennisclub e.V. Ludwigshafen/Rhein was unanimously approved by the 80 people present. At this time, the club had over 100 members and 6 courts. A groundsman and two coaches were already available to the members in the first summer season. In the summer of 1932, 24 women, 27 men, 6 junior women and 10 junior men competed in a ranking list. The club joined the German Tennis Federation that year. In the same year, the courts were enlarged by 4 courts and a clubhouse was built on Bremserstrasse.

1933

At the first ordinary general meeting on 28.03.1933, the previous „pro forma“ chairmen Dr. Ambros and Dr. Krafft were replaced by Dr. Kissel and Dr. Kollek. Dr. Diekmann was appointed match keeper together with Dr. Ufer.

1937

The I.G. Tennis Club was incorporated into the Gymnastics and Sports Club of I.G. Farbenindustrie Aktiengesellschaft and on October 1, 1937 was transformed into the I.G. Farbenindustrie AG Company Sports Association with a tennis section.

1943

Due to the effects of the war, the tennis club came to a standstill.

1945

With the end of the war in May 1945, the I.G. Farbenindustrie and its company sports association with the tennis department ceased to exist.

1946

Repair of two pitches for the French administration in Bremserstrasse. In the years that followed, German players were also occasionally allowed to use these pitches.

1948

After lengthy negotiations with the relevant authorities at the time (military government, French administration of the plant, German police directorate, plant management and works council), the club was re-established on June 15, 1948 with 78 members under the then chairmanship of Dr. Heinrich Diekmann under the name „BASF TC Blau-Weis“. Construction of four courts.

1952

Construction of changing rooms and showers.

1953

The club has 8 pitches, reopening of the clubhouse.

1954

During these years, the sporting activities were impressive. 11 teams were regularly successful participants in the association's competitions, as well as in the tournaments for the Palatinate Championships and Rhineland-Palatinate-Saar (1956: Jürgen Diekmann was triple champion in 1956: men's singles, men's doubles, mixed doubles). With the exception of 1955 and 1957, the first men's team always brought the championship to Ludwigshafen.

1957

Move to a new sports ground at Willersinnweiher (approx. 7 ha) with 12 pitches and 528 members. The era of the Bremserstrasse pitch has come to an end. The BASF TC BW club received an anniversary present for its 25th anniversary. In the years 1957 - 1967, the facility was continuously expanded to 20 courts.

1968

Commissioning of a hall with two pitches in 1968/1969.

1970

At the beginning of the seventies, the clubhouse was enlarged and the bowling alley was converted to an automatic system. German senior champions (men 45 and older) in the years 1970 - 1971 - 1972. The seniors had a great team success in the years 1970, 1971 and 1972. The team with Kurt Peters, Manfred Geithe, Dr. Willi Rühle, Helmut Jörger, Otto Tepper, Dr. Dieter Gruner, Walter Ruffler and Dr. Ewald Daubach won the title of „German senior team champion“ three times in a row.

1973

A further hall with two pitches was put into operation. Number of pitches: four indoor and 20 outdoor pitches.

1978

Construction of a fence system surrounding the site.

1979

Construction of an automatic irrigation system.

1981

Creation of space 21.

1982

50th anniversary of BASF TC Blau-Weiss (26.06.1982). Landscaping of the entire grounds. Demolition of the tool shed at the entrance and construction of the bicycle stand.

1984

Construction of the parking lot and expansion of the grounds with a sports field behind the halls.

1985

Foundation of a sports support group at the BASF TC under Dr. Dietrich Lausberg. At the time of foundation on December 13, 1985, 49 club members were gained. New amendment to the statutes of BASF TC BW. Introduction of a hobby sports representative (popular sports) to the board.

1986

Construction of courts 22 and 23, as well as 3 small pitches and 2 practice walls. Wilhelm Spoor becomes the first full-time managing director of BASF TC. An amendment to the articles of association forms the basis for this, including the establishment of a 15-member advisory board. Brigitte Distler is the first board member responsible for hobby / popular sports. Hans Engert becomes head coach. 1st edition of the club magazine „Matchball“, which is published twice a year. John Clifton, a former top English player, joins the coaching team. The first beginnings of a computer-controlled replacement system. The third tennis hall is built. Organizer of the championships for active and senior players of TV Rheinland-Pfalz. 14 active and senior teams. Rainer Fuchs, board member of BASF TC, was unanimously elected Vice President of TV Palatinate at the general meeting of the Palatinate Tennis Association. Construction of the office at the club entrance. Renovation of the bar in the clubhouse. Organizer of the „German Journalist Championships“. This year (30.05.87) the club has 1450 members (active: 798, youth: 216, passive: 441). The first women's team is promoted to the regional league.

1988

The second men's team was promoted to the regional league and the first men's team took part in the Bundesliga promotion round. The first women's team was able to secure its place in the regional league. First German Youth Championships for age groups III and IV at the BASF TC under the patronage of Federal Chancellor Dr. Helmut Kohl. Thomas Rühle (BASF TC) and Anke Huber (Heidelberger TC) become German champions in their age groups. The support group now has 81 members. Organization of a trip with 50 participants to the „International American Tennis Championships“, New York. World junior team champion under Hans Engert. Steffi Graf often trains at the facility.

1989

German Tennis Teacher Championships. Organization of a tennis trip to Wimbledon. Steffi Graf and Boris Becker win Wimbledon. Coaching staff: Hans Engert, Margie and John Clifton.

1990

Thomas Rühle won the title of youth champion in his age group AK II at the German Youth Championships. The German championship title was won by the senior boys under Hans Engert. Organization of a trip to Florida with 44 participants to the „Lipton International Players Championship“ in Key Biscayne, Miami. Kitchen fire in the clubhouse, resulting in a total remodeling of the kitchen and redesign of the restaurant with construction of the winter garden.

1991

Five regional league teams will represent the BASF TC in the medal round. Organization of the German Tennis Teacher Championships. Introduction of ladies‘ day / men's night in popular sports. General refurbishment of the two granulate halls (demolition of Halls I and II with the exception of the foundations and the laminated beams. Reconstruction according to the state of the art). 1992

Young seniors play in the 1st Bundesliga, Managing Director Wilhelm Spoor retires. BMW Tennis Cup international, BASF TC tennis trip to the U.S. Open, New York, as well as a large round trip to the southeast of Canada with 33 participants.

1995

Renovation of the clubhouse roof. Men's 35+ national league. The men's 55 medal round (regional league) is renamed the „Fritz Kuhlmann Games“. The DTB thus honors the merits of our long-time club member and Davis Cup player Fritz Kuhlmann (Senior). BMW International Tennis Cup. 1996

Our 1st women's team (regional league) is promoted to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time. Men's I promoted from the Oberliga to the 2nd Bundesliga. 1999

Women I play in the 1st Bundesliga, Men I are represented in the 2nd Bundesliga. Access to the changing rooms is only possible with a coded ID card. The women's I team remains in the 2nd Bundesliga, while the men's I team is relegated to the Oberliga. Our long-standing board member and Vice President of TV Pfalz, Rainer Fuchs, returns to Austria.

2003

Due to the departure of Rainer Fuchs, Technical Director, Hermann Ullmer takes over as acting Director. On May 24, 1986, long-time club coach Ernst Lutz passed away in Bad Münster. The women's I team in the 2nd Bundesliga and the men's I team in the Oberliga were able to maintain their divisions. The annual general meeting took place on 21.11.2003. Petra Funhoff replaced Jürgen Frisch as the new treasurer. Dirk Battau replaced Manfred Hoffmann in the marketing department. The German Youth Championships U16, U14, U12 are held for the 9th time at the BASF TC facility. The 1st women's team plays in the 2nd Bundesliga and is promoted to the 1st Bundesliga, the men's Oberliga stays in the same division. The German Youth Championships U16, U14, U12 are held for the 10th time at the BASF TC facility, where Dominice Ripoll becomes the U16 doubles champion. 2005

Launch of the 4 Plus youth concept and the 3rd Ludwigshafen Youth Cup. The 11th German Junior Championships U16, U14, U12 were held at the BASF TC facility. Dominice Ripoll became junior champion in the U16 singles and runner-up in the doubles together with Laura Sadria. Patron: Eggert Voscherau, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF AG. Dirk Battau stepped down from the Board in January. At the general meeting on 18.11.2005, President Dr. Horst Scheuermann no longer stood as a candidate. The new President is Manfred Schotthöfer, Dr. Gunther Schulze, Finance; Manfred Schäfer, Technology; Wilfried Becker, Marketing; Thomas Rühle, Sports Director; Antonio Fernandez, Youth Director; Carsten Stobbe, Popular Sports; Hans-Jürgen Rapp, Public Relations; Bruno Ackerknecht, Senior Tennis. The relegation of the Ladies I team to the 1st Bundesliga was thwarted by a sports tribunal. Relegation to the 2nd league. The men's I team in the Oberliga was withdrawn from the competition due to player injuries. One of the 1954 soccer world champions, Horst Eckel, did the honors at an exhibition match.

2006

The women's 1st team achieves promotion from the 2nd Bundesliga to the 1st Bundesliga for the third time. The men's I team starts in the Verbandsliga and manages to stay in the league. The men's 30s are promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. Robert Eisele becomes European champion in the men's 40„s. The men's 70“s emerge as runners-up and qualify to take part in the 2007 European Club Championships. The 12th German Youth Championship U16, U14, U12 was held at the BASF TC facility. Patron: Eggert Voscherau, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF AG. Organization of the Ludwigshafen Youth Cup. From the spring, the "Heidelberg Ball School" comes into action at BASF TC. Mario and Nena Martincevic take over management of the club in mid-October.

2007

BASF TC turns 75 on April 19. Summer night party on the occasion of the anniversary. The 1st women's team is relegated from the 1st Bundesliga to the 2nd Bundesliga. The first men's team is promoted from the Verbandsliga to the Oberliga. The men's 70s play in the highest division, the 1st Regionalliga SW. Robert Eisele again becomes European Champion Men 40+. The 13th German Youth Championships U16, U14, U12 were held at the BASF TC facility. Patronage: Eggert Voscherau, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF AG. „Fair Play Cup 2007„: Constantin Schmitz, Andernacher TC, Juniors U12, RPF. 2010

Ladies I play in the newly created „South-West“ regional league. Thommy Rühle, sports and youth manager since November 2005, leaves the club in November. Leupoldt, Public Relations took over the individual departments. The popular sports department is currently vacant. As of April 1, 2014, the BASF TC intends to change its club-controlled training program and concentrate all training activities in a tennis school under Lars Noll and Kai Heinicke under the name „FIRST SERVE TENNIS COLLEGE“. Ladies I, 2nd Bundesliga Süd; Ladies II, Regionalliga SW and Ladies III compete in the Verbandsliga. Ladies 50 and 55 are playing outstandingly in the association leagues, ladies 60, Oberliga. Presentation and discussion of overall BASF TC concept (tennis remains core sport, state performance center, fitness, physio, rehab, conference area and events) in the club/BASF SE. Promise of support from BASF SE. The LLZ is relocated to Ludwigshafen. Creation of future-proof, professional training conditions. Conversion and extension of Hall III into a 3-court hall with Rebound Ace surface. Further redesign of the entrance area, energy-efficient refurbishment of the tennis halls with LED. BASF TC establishes a new tennis base with Steffen Neutert, replacing Kai Heinicke and Lars Noll. The office is restructured. The previous manager (Angela Buley) moves to TC Oppau. 2016

Infrastructure: Installation of a PV system on the roof of Hall III and renovation of the WC areas. G. Süntzenich resigns as Chief Financial Officer and is replaced by Peter Schneider. Composition of the Executive Board: Frank Stauder, Robert Pfeffer, Peter Schneider, Steffen Neutert, Carsten Stobbe. Nico Fink is appointed head of the office. 2017

Infrastructure: Renovation of center court and stands as well as barrier-free access, completion of multicourt. Establishment of the SRH - BD Medical „Tennis with a net“ cooperation. A distance learning course for players is launched in cooperation with the partners. BASF TC is the first sports club in Rhineland-Palatinate to establish cooperation with Special Olympics under the motto „Unified Sport“, with players with and without disabilities training together. Carsten Stobbe resigns from the board. Sunday Onwe from the Start Integration project becomes 2nd groundsman alongside Boguslaw Figiel. The women I are promoted to the 1st Bundesliga, women II play in the regional league, men I remain in the 2nd Bundesliga (5th place), men II in the Oberliga. Nico Kuhn is a finalist at the Junior French Open and wins the doubles tournament. 700 spectators attend his first home match for the BASF TC. 2018

Infrastructure: Renovation and refurbishment of the restaurant and topping-out ceremony for the extension to the clubhouse. The WC areas were also extensively renovated. The office was certified as a training company by the IHK. Sanja Perkusic is new to the office and is training to become a sports and fitness specialist. Hennes Reiß takes over the restaurant from Nena Martincevic as tenant with the new name „Clubhaus“. Participants prepare for the World Games in Abu Dhabi at a „Special Olympics“ camp. The women's I team is unfortunately relegated from the 1st Bundesliga, as are the women's II team from the regional league to the Oberliga. Despite the relegation of the Men's I team, they remain in the 2nd Bundesliga, as TC Wiesbaden does not register for the 2nd Bundesliga. DJM held for the 24th time.

2019

Infrastructure: The sustainability concept (LED lighting) is supplemented by a new connection to the district heating network in cooperation with TWL. In the first stage, the restaurant, office and conference rooms went into operation. The new building (office and conference rooms) was completed. The first event to take place was the MVV on 05.04.2019. A modern outdoor kitchen was added to the terrace. In addition to sports, events, conferences, seminars and courses can now be held in the new premises. BASF SE has taken over the organization of BASF sports tournaments and team events to ensure the club's continued sustainability. Sonja Ziemann took over this task. The DJM were held in June for the 25th time in a row. The LUC Ludwigshafen Challenger, an ATP tournament (€46,000 prize money), was held for the first time. Winner: Yannick Hanfmann. The women's team I took 3rd place in the 2nd Bundesliga, while the women's team II was promoted from the Oberliga to the Regionalliga. The men's I team finished the round in 2nd place in the 2nd Bundesliga and narrowly missed out on promotion to the 1st Bundesliga. The men's II team remained in the Oberliga.

2020

Infrastructure: Remaining work on the conversion and renovation of the changing rooms. Simo Jokic takes over the restaurant as tenant from Hennes Reiß. The circle of friends of the sponsors established in 2014 now comprises 80 partners who support professional sport extensively. A strategic partnership with the Ludwigshafen Owls is launched under the motto „Better together“. Probase (Dennis Gremlmayr/Steffen Neutert) was also founded with the aim of developing young players into professional sport. 2020 was marked by the global coronavirus pandemic. No Bundesliga matches took place. The medal round was held. One highlight was the promotion of the Men's 30 to the 1st Bundesliga. The German Youth Championships were held in September under strict hygiene regulations. However, the year was marked by the closure of the restaurant and conference operations. Indoor operations were also completely suspended from November. Nico Fink leaves the club as head of the office. Boguslav Figiel leaves the club as groundsman. Manfred Birner is elected as Technical and Infrastructure Director. Composition of the board: Frank Stauder, Peter Schneider, Manfred Birner, Robert Pfeffer, Steffen Neutert, Sascha Frank.

2021

Infrastructure: The forecourt to the restaurant was completely renovated. The women's team 1 secured 5th place to remain in the 2nd Bundesliga. The men's team 1 became champions in the 2nd Bundesliga South and was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga.

2022

The DJM took place for the 29th time in a row in Ludwigshafen. More than 2000 spectators attended the men's 1st Bundesliga derby against GW Mannheim. The men's 1 team was relegated back to the 2nd Bundesliga. The women's 1 team secured its place in the 2nd Bundesliga South. Infrastructure: Construction of two boules courts and renovation of the multicourt and playground. A pilot padel court is built in Hall 2. Robert Pfeffer passes away in January 2022. The Board of Directors is composed as follows Frank Stauder, Peter Schneider, Manfred Birner, Julian Jörg, Steffen Neutert, Jan van der Laan, Claus Majolk. Members of the office: Julian Jörg, Sanja Perkusic, Coline Kiefermann, Jannik Ripberger.

2023

The first men's and women's teams manage to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga South. Construction of four outdoor padel courts begins. The DJM takes place in Ludwigshafen for the 30th time.

2024

The first men's and women's teams manage to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga South. Commissioning of the four outdoor padel courts. An additional indoor court is built in Hall 2. PadelBase is founded, 10 teams start playing, 100 new members are recruited. Peter Schneider and Manfred Birner resign from the board. Philipp Stöffler is elected as the new Chief Financial Officer. Office staffing: Coline Kiefermann, Maike Preißler, Fabrice Weiß.

2025

The men's and women's first teams manage to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga South. Manfred Schotthöfer dies in March 2025 at the age of 70. Infrastructure: Multicourt converted into a soccer court. Frank Stauder steps down as president after 11 years. Sascha Bembennek is elected as the new President. Composition of the board: Sascha Bembennek, Steffen Neutert, Philipp Stöffler, Julian Jörg, Claus Majolk, Jan van der Laan.

The BASF Tennisclub e.V. offers programs for different age and level classes. Whether it's recreational sports tournaments, open rounds to get to know new playing partners or social events - find out about our programs on the news page, the club notice boards or via the newsletter.

The Best Ager program combines sporting activity with social time. Training under the direction of Claus Majolk, Tuesdays from 10:30 am. Plus spinal gymnastics on Mondays and strength training on Tuesdays.

Open rounds for members on clay or indoor courts. Gain playing experience, get to know new playing partners and enjoy recreational play in a relaxed atmosphere.

After Work Padel on Thursdays from 18:00, vacation camps for children and teenagers, fast learning courses for beginners and special programs for BASF employees.
